Gratitude Project - 8th November

Today was a day for feeling unheard and under appreciated; either that or I have a serious case of the "End of Year Grumps"... it's 50/50.

Things I am grateful for today:

1. The return of my workplace bestie! She's was on holiday last week, and I hadn't realised how much I missed her. Work is far more manageable now she's back - I've got someone to vent to, and to have morning/afternoon tea with!

2. The gym at work. I whinge and moan about going to the gym - but by crikey I'm happy it's only a short walk to get there for a lunchtime class. Occasionally I go out for a run, but I'm not always great about forcing myself to go. Having the gym "just there" and a workout buddy who won't let me get out of it means that I'm more likely to exercise than not - and I can feel less guilty about the afternoon tea snacks!

3. A cooler night for sleeping. Snuggling down and being cosy is my favourite way to sleep - the warm nights are ramping up and I struggle to get comfy when I'm too hot... the broken sleep is probably a big factor in my recent grumpiness. There's been some rain today and the evening has been cooler, and I am excited about the potential for a great nights sleep :)

How are you today? I hope you've been getting enough sleep and keeping the grumps at bay! How do you keep cool during hot summer nights? I'd love some tips :)

Friday Feels - 16 May

Welcome to the second installment on Friday Feeeeeeels (whenever I say it, I can't stop picturing it like that in my mind)

It's been a naff week for me, we are trying to get Mac to sleep in his own bed for the whole night, and the interrupted sleeps that have come from putting him back to be three or four times a night have really taken their toll.... I feel like a walking zombie.

I'm hoping to score a couple of naps this weekend to recover, keep your fingers crossed for me! :)

So here we go for my feels:

Hearing: Spotify is seriously the best. thing. everrrrr! At this exact moment in time, I am listening to the Take That Greatest Hits - and no, I am not ashamed to admit that  :)

Seeing: Or rather a lack of seeing - I completely forgot to record the first episode of Offspring the other night, and have been in an enforced interwebs embargo so that I don't accidentally read anything that might give the episode away!

Tasting: Take away pizza! Well, more the walk I took to pick it up. There is a pizza place literally around the corner from us. We don't normally frequent it, but last night we decided to give it a go. The bonus being that I got to walk through my neighbourhood. There was something almost magical about being the only person out walking in the moonlight whilst everyone was inside their houses or cars. I think I might start making it a regular thing... not the pizza, the evening walk!

Smelling: Whilst Mac was at his swimming lesson, there was a lady sat near me with a perfume that transported me to another time and place. I couldn't (still can't!) quite place the where and when, but I think it was late teens - so it was maybe a perfume a friend used to wear? Whatever it was it led me down a nostalgic path that I think I am still on... I'm quite enjoying it :)

Touching: Our cat's super soft winter fur is coming through. He is looking a bit fatter, and oh so cozy!! He's also been snuggling up to us on the sofa at night - which is awesome until he gets that crazy psycho look in his eye....

Has anything evoked nostalgic memories for you this week? I'd love to hear about it!

It's been a while....

But I have some good excuses, I've had a pretty busy time of it recently...

I moved house at 32-weeks pregnant with a 2-year old in tow (not recommended!);
I've transferred said 2-year old into a new day care (which went infinitely better than I could ever have hoped for, he's a champ!!);
and I eventually gave birth (2-weeks overdue!) to another little boy, who didn't make it the process easy for me (but that's a whole 'nother post)....
Oh and in about 2 months time, we're moving once again!

I think the twitter hash tag for such a paragraph would be #firstworldproblems

And finally I am able to sit quietly at my computer, with my Little Monster in safely in daycare and my 6-week old Newbie fast asleep.
And finally I feel like I might have found some room in my little world and under used brain to let my creative juices flow again!

So watch this space.... I might not be blogging daily, but I will be blogging again! It might not be the best thing that you will have ever read, but it will be me - the whole sleep-deprived-cracking-very-unfunny-"dad jokes"-and-lucky-to-shower-3-times-a-week me.

Thank goodness you can't smell on the interweb!

I've hit the wall...

At first I thought it was 3.30-itis, but then I realised, nah it's just pregnancy.

I am now in the "I can't get comfortable enough to sleep well" phase.
Y'know, the phase that lasts until the baby comes out (when you then move into the "My newborn won't let me sleep" phase. But that's a-whoooole-nother ballgame!)

Thankfully my Father-in-Law is picking up the Little Monster today, I don't think I could actually manage the 25-minute power-walk to daycare to get him... It's going to be hard enough to walk the 250m to the bus stop today!

Anyway, enough of my complaining!!
If my tiredness is the worst thing I have to worry about today, then I am doing alright.

And to look on the very bright side - tomorrow is Friday (YAY!), and I will be spending the weekend down the coast with the in-laws! Fingers crossed for a lovely sunny weekend  :)

The Hangover

Today has been a struggle... I blame the hangover.

No, actually, I blame Husband

You see, I had a Girls Night Out last night (Not on a School Night!? I hear you gasp). Yes, on a School Night.

I was was supposed to drive, thereby limiting my wine intake to one solitary glass; enough to feel a part of the evening, but not to have to worry about the morning after.

However, just as I was putting the final touches to my make up, Husband came into the bathroom and uttered the fateful words:
"We'll give you a lift in. That way you can have a few drinks and enjoy yourself with the Girls. I'll even do the morning shift with the Little Monster"
Of course when he put it like that, how could I refuse!? In fact I felt it my duty to enjoy a glass of wine or four....

And despite a number of attempts to alternate between the glass of wine and the glass of water in front of me, I continually found the wine glass in my hand - sometime you just can't fight the Universe  J

So you see, it really is Husband's fault - not mine.

Oh how I wish I drank coffee

I am a bleary eyed Mother today... and it's all my own fault.

Way back when the Little Monster was a wee thing (about 3 months old), he miraculously slept for the first time. I shared this joyous occasion with my mum's group, with all the energy and the smile of a new mother who has finally had some decent sleep.

As punishment for what he considered to be "showing off", the Little Monster spent the next week making sure that I woke up every two hours; feeding, cuddling, nappy change, singing, shushing - he wanted the lot.

So a month later, when he again slept through, I thought oho! I know this game. I'll keep my mouth shut until I am sure this is a regular occurrence. We had three nights in a row of solid sleep; I thought three nights meant it was his new schedule.

So once again, I bounded into my mum's group full of energy and a great big smile. And once again, I was punished for my naivety.

Lesson learnt; no more discussing my son sleeping habits.

Oh how quickly we forget...

Yesterday, I had an email from a work friend who is on maternity leave with her first child. She was desperately tired, and asked me how old the Little Monster was when he slept through.

I cheerfully replied that our Little Monster was a bit slow in the "regularly sleeping through department" (I call regularly at least 3 times a week, and he was about 15-months), but that now we usually get five full nights a week.

Apparently, I was showing off again.

Last night, the Little Bugger Monster had me up three times, before I finally gave up and fell on the sofa, Monster in arms. He, of course, slept like a log; a fidgeting, snoring, tyring-to-stick-his-hands-in-mummy's-bellybutton log.

Which meant that I didn't.

As I said, all my own fauly really.
